The second annual Shrimp Fest for Autism was held last night in Pemberton.

The Shrimp Fest was held at American Legion Post 294. And this year’s event had a special meaning, as it was a tribute to Gail Walsh.

Walsh helped organize last year’s event, but she was not able to see the success of this year’s event. Walsh was killed in a car accident in Cherry Hill back in January, and the plans were immediately focused on recognizing her at this year’s event.

“I think she would have been pleased,” said Brian Sever. “She would have had a lot of laughs -that’s the thing with Gail. I think she would have been super excited to be here, but unfortunately, she couldn’t be here. This is our most successful event het. She would have been very happy with the event. It has been a tough transition with out her.”

Sever, who is a part of the Learning Well team, has helped out with Gail’s family ever since she passed away. Her family was in attendance for some time before leaving.

“The day it happened, I was there,” said Sever. “When the cops came to the house and told us, I told them that I was staying. Nobody can replace Gail. I’m trying to help out the best I can. Our company is taking over services, so they can get back to normal. We have a staff that goes to their house and handles things for them overnight. We want to keep their routine as normal as possible.”

The event reportedly garnered $5,000 for The Learning Well team. The Learning Well team is No. 1 fundraising right now for the Walk Now for Autism in Mt. Laurel on May 19th.

The event was a sell out with 200 people. At last year’s event, they were short of a sell out.

“it was a great turnout,” said Sever. “We had this whole place packed. We definitely earned a lot. We are in first place this year from the beginning. Dangerous did a great job (last night). I think everybody had a good time.”

The event sponsored by Dangerous Wines. In addition, music was provided by The Escape Plan, who also performed at last year’s event.

Dangerous Chef J.D. Austin made a special presentation last night. He presented Margarita Shrimp.

It was Shrimp with Dangerous Wines Margarita poured on top of it.

Killer Cakes made a three-tier Autism Cake. Each layer had a different type of cake.

Attendees had a chance of winning different gift baskets, after buying tickets. One individual won three gift baskets.

A lady won $455 dollars on a 50-50 drawling.

This Thursday, many restaurants will participate in the Be a Hometown Hero: Dine out and Fight Aids.

The event will take place this Thursday, April 26th. The annual Dining Out for Life, sponsored by Subaru, is a way to bring people together over food, while fighting this cause.

There are 3,000 restaurants around the country participating. All will be donating a percentage of the day’s funds to their local AIDS organization.

An estimated $4 million is expected to be raised on Thursday. There are 1.2 million Americans living with HIV/AIDS, with an estimated 240,000 living with HIV/AIDS and they don’t even know about it.

“Dining Out for Life is such a winner for everyone. All we have to do is exactly what we do many other nights of the week – go to a restaurant when we’re hungry. The cost isn’t any higher and it even gives you an excuse for that extra glass of wine or saying, ‘yes’ to dessert. You just have to eat at a participating restaurant on a specific day, and the money stays in your city, “ said Chopped host and event spokesperson Ted Allen.

“We have made significant progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS, however, there is much to be done. Support for people living with HIV and the prevention of new infections is necessary to move forward,” said Dining Out for Life President Stacie Walls-Beegle.

Harrisburg, PA – Motorama returned to the Pennsylvania Farm Show complex & Expo Center yesterday.

The gates were bursting with people throughout much of the day. Later on in the night, it started to calm down.

There were even unofficial reports that the event set a record for one day ticket sales. According to the website, the show usually attracts 50,000 people each year.

The doors opened back up at 11 am this morning and will close at 5 pm.

These fans came to the nation’s largest all indoor Motorsports event. The event is in it’s 34th year.

Next year’s event is already scheduled to take place on February 16th and 17th, 2013 at the same location.

There was 1 million square feet of exhibitions, including a large arena hosting motocross and quad races. These races took place much of the day.

Some of the races and other exhibits will be aired on Car Gear TV’s Tails Fins and Chrome show. It is not known when the episode will air.

The show promoters also tried to raise funds for the Foundation 529 non-profit organization. The charity’s goal is to raise funds for better racing equipment for youths.

The foundation was started in 2008 after the death of Wyatt Barton in a racing accident in North Carolina. Much of the cars and motorcycles at the show had buckets by them to raise funds for the foundation.

In the Equine Arena, there were remote control vehicle racing. In the Large Arena, the usual home of the Harrisburg Stampede, an indoor football team, hosted motocross and quad racing.

There were also go-kart races, too.

The show had all types of vehicles and motorcycles, including vintage cars and a monster truck van. There was a Dangerous car, built from a Corvette and Mustang suspension, that also had two gatling guns on it.

Besides the actual cars, there were singers on the stage and a contest to crown the next Mrs. Motorama, with the winner to be announced later today.
